Here, spend a day acclimating and simply enjoying the surrounding scenery, then continue on through barren alpine desert to Kimbo Hut and a very early morning climb to the summit.

Tackle Kilimanjaro's steepest route on a 6-day climbing adventure. Depart Arusha for the Umbwe Route, departing from Umbew Village on the mountain's southern side. Begin your ascent through dense forest, even scrambling over some rocks to reach your camp site. The following day continue along steep ridgeline to Barranco Camp, then cross over undulating valleys (which help with acclimation) to eventually reach Barafu Camp. Awake at midnight for your attempt to summit the mountain. This particularly strenuous tour is appropriate for fit individuals only.

Hike Kilimanjaro's only north side trail - the rugged and remote Rongai Route - on a thrilling 6-day camping adventure. Depart Arusha for the Rongai Trailhead to begin one of the mountain's most arduous journeys, geared toward fit individuals since it leaves little time for acclimating. Begin your ascent, trekking days through rainforest, heather and moorland toward Kibo's steep slopes. Cross over highland desert for a night at the Outward Bound hut and a midnight climb to the summit. Stop and view Hans Meyer Cave - named for the first westerner to summit Kilimanjaro - as you go.
