Karl Johans Gate
Stretching from Oslo Central Station to the Royal Palace, Karl Johans gate is Oslo’s main thoroughfare. Named after King Charles III John (Karl Johan), the street is home to many of the
city’s top attractions, including the Royal Palace, Stortinget, National Theatre and Central Station.
During Oslo’s short summer, residents flock to the beer gardens lining the street for al fresco drinks. Come winter, a pond along the street transforms into an ice skating rink. Throughout the

Karlstejn Castle
Some 18 miles (30 kilometers) southwest of Prague, Karlstejn Castle dominates the surrounding area from its hilltop perch. The castle has been a feature of the landscape here for almost 700 years, and its fairy-tale turrets and steep roofs attract visitors from around the world who come to step back in time.
The Basics
Karlstejn Castle was founded in 1348 by Charles IV of Bohemia—one of the Czech Republic’s best-loved historical figures (the Charles Bridge in Prague is named after him). He intended the castle to act as a stronghold for his priceless crown jewels and holy relics. In the years that followed, the castle was besieged by Hussite forces and damaged by fire before being restored in the 19th century. Nowadays, guided tours from Prague bring the castle’s many secrets to life.
One of the highlights of a visit to the castle is the chance to see the Chapel of the Holy Cross in the Great Tower. The walls of the chapel are decorated with more than 2,000 semiprecious stones along with 128 paintings by the craftsman Master Theodoric.

How to Get There
Trains depart several times a day from hlavni nádrazi (Prague’s central station) to Karlstejn village at the bottom of the castle hill. The walk up to the castle takes around 30 minutes. Alternatively, numerous guided tours visit the castle from Prague with round-trip transport from Prague. It’s also possible to drive and there is parking in the village.
When to Get There
Karlstejn Castle’s opening hours vary by season. In July and August, it is open daily from 9am to 6pm. The castle is closed on Mondays the rest of the year. From mid-November it’s only open on weekends, and closes over Christmas week and for most of February (dates vary by year). Double-check before traveling if you’re planning to visit in the winter months. In the summer months, the castle can get very busy with tourists.

Kandawgyi Park
Kandawgyi Park, sometimes also called Kandawgyi Garden, is one of the reasons why Yangon is often called the garden city. It is a retreat in the middle of the bustle and the noise, where couples, joggers and people looking for a relaxing stroll can unwind in a tranquil setting. The many picnic areas and playgrounds under the shady trees are especially popular with families and kids. But spread over 260 acres you can also find tropical gardens, restaurants and recreation centers, a big walkway along Kandawgyi, the great artificial lake created in colonial times, a mini zoo and good views of the Shwedagon Pagoda and Karaweik Hall. The latter is an enormous replica of a royal barge comprised of three floors of dining rooms, performance halls and shops and reminds of the ancient Burmese kings, who used to travel the waterways of their kingdom on these glamorous boats.
Kandawgyi Park is also the location where regular concerts and festivals are held throughout the year. At the beginning of January, for example, the Independence Day festival is celebrated in the gardens for seven days. Another prominent festival takes place in November, when oarsmen from all over the country compete in boat races on the lake. This annual regatta also includes a royal barge procession, which stands in contrast to the more rowdy races and pays homage to the old times and the beautiful vessels used back then with a lot of pomp and ceremony.

You can find the Kandawgyi Park just north of downtown Yangon and east of the Shwedagon Pagoda. The easiest way to get there is either on foot or by taxi, but if you want to brave the bus system, it’s best to get off at either the Shewdagon Pagoda East Gate stop or on 3 Street. If you want to go on the boardwalk around the lake, the entry fee to the park is K2000 for foreigners, about $2, but if you enter through the two eastern entrances to go to one of the restaurants, you will only have to pay K300. There is also a K500 camera fee if your camera is spotted at the entrance.

Karst Region
Not limited to a specific municipality, the Karst (sometimes referred to as 'Kras') region is the land situated between Trieste Gulf and the Vipava Valley. The limestone plateau is so picturesque, and is famous for lending its name to a specific topographical phenomenon wherein fusible stones are affected and shaped by water. The lakes, springs, swallow holes, caves, and potholes that qualify as Karst make up a large portion of Slovenia.
As such, Karst is most famous for its incredible caves. These include Vilenica, Lipica, Divača, Kacna Jama, Postojna, and the Škocjan Caves, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site. These are the main tourist attractions, and are certainly not to missed during a visit to Slovenia.
There are around 100 municipalities within the region, the center being Sežana. The main rural centers include Divača, Dutovlje, and Komen.
Cerknica Lake appears between October and June, and provides a wonderful atmosphere for fishing and bird-watching.
Practical Info
Because the region is so widespread, the most effective way to see it is by car. If you're flying into Ljubljana, it is possible to rent a car, take a taxi, or get a bus into any major city in the region.
The geological haven requires a good map and a good idea of how you would like to spend your time, as the lack of centralization can be confusing.

Katara Cultural Village
“Katara” was the ancient name given to the Qatar Peninsula — a fitting name for this collection of Qatari-style buildings that comprise the Katara Cultural Village. Karlsplatz
One of the largest squares in Vienna, Karlsplatz is dominated by the huge, baroque Karlskirche church, which was built between 1716 and 1737 with designs influenced by the architect's visit to Rome. The square is also well known for a pair of pavilions that were created in 1898 and 1899 by Otto Wagner and contain marble slabs and green-painted, wrought-iron frames that are decorated with gold-colored sunflowers and gilded trim.
The western side of the square contains the Secession Building, which is an art museum, and the Naschmarkt, which is Vienna's most popular market. The eastern side of the park is bordered by a park called Resselpark where you can find several statues of famous Austrians. Also near the square are several cultural institutions including the Musikverein, a concert hall that is home to the Vienna Philharmonic, and the Kunstlerhaus, an art gallery and exposition hall. The History Museum of Vienna is located on the eastern side of the square as well.

Kangia Fjord
In 2004 this famed fjord was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site., since it’s home to one of the fastest and most active glaciers on earth. Karen Blixen Museum
Better known by her pen name, Isak Dinesen, Karen Blixen is the woman behind the colonial-era love story Out of Africa. Kariye Museum (Chora Church)
Originally built as the Church of the Holy Savior in Chora during the Byzantine era and converted to a mosque during the Ottoman rule of Istanbul, the Chora is now a museum with colorful, well-preserved frescoes and stunning mosaics. Located outside the Old City in the Edirnekapi neighborhood, art-filled Kariye is well worth the trek.
The Basics
The Kariye Museum was constructed as a church in the fifth century and then partially destroyed by an earthquake in the 12th century. The vibrant frescoes and mosaics that cover its walls were mostly created during its post-earthquake reconstruction. Though the frescoes were covered during its stint as an Ottoman mosque, they were uncovered and preserved when the building was converted into a museum in 1948.

Karlovy Vary (Carlsbad)
Karlovy Vary (also known as Carlsbad) is a charming spa town located about two hours west of Prague and full of Art Nouveau buildings and wealthy Russian tourists. Legend has it that Charles IV discovered the spring while out hunting with his dogs and founded the town, hence the name.
The town enjoyed a vogue in the 19th century when all manner of fashionable folk (including Beethoven and Chopin) rolled up to take the medicinal waters. Karl-Marx-Allee (Stalinallee)
Karl-Marx-Allee was the most famous street in East Berlin. Originally known as Große Frankfurter Straße, it was renamed Stalinallee on Dec. 21, 1949, Stalin's 70th birthday. The street was built as part of the Soviet's reconstruction plan and included residential blocks with buildings designed in the classic Soviet style. The buildings had apartments for workers as well as shops, restaurants, a huge movie theater and a hotel.
On June 17, 1953, Stalinallee was the center of a worker uprising against the communist government. Soviet tanks and troops put a stop to the uprising quickly, and unfortunately at least 125 people lost their lives. Later the road was used for East Germany's annual May Day parade, which included thousands of soldiers along with tanks and other military vehicles to display the power of the communist government.
After Stalin's death, the street was renamed Karl-Marx-Allee on November 13, 1961. Karl-Marx-Allee is 89 meters (97 yards) wide and nearly 2 kilometers (1.24 miles) long. At each end are dual towers at Frankfurter Tor and Strausberger Platz. The street was, and still is, a popular place to go shopping and relax at a cafe. After reunification, the residential buildings on Karl-Marx-Allee were sold to investors and underwent extensive renovations. Today, the apartments are a popular place to live.

To get to Karl-Marx-Allee, start at Alexanderplatz. The U5 runs along Karl-Marx-Allee, so you can get out at any station between Alexanderplatz and Frankfurter Tor.

Karol Bagh is a residential and commercial neighborhood of New Delhi that’s particularly well-known for its markets. Kapnikarea Church
Standing proud on Kapnikarea square at the heart of Athens’ principal shopping boulevard, Kapnikarea Church looks somewhat out of place amid the sea of modern shopping boutiques. Katakolon Cruise Port

Karla Caves
A popular day trip from Mumbai, the Karla Caves are carved out of a hillside situated in the Western Ghats in Maharashtra. These Buddhist shrines were developed thousands of years ago in ancient India and depict the Buddhist architecture and culture of that time.
The Karla Caves feature a collection of intricately carved chaityas (prayer halls) with the largest measuring 45 meters and dating all the way back to the 1st century BC. It has an exquisitely carved teak-wood roof and rows of pillars decorated with sculptures of human couples, elephants and horses. (Despite its Buddhist origins, the Karla Caves in fact contain very few representations of the Buddha.) A large window at the entrance of the main prayer hall deflects rays of sunlight towards the rear, impressively illuminating the stupa situated there. The smaller of the Karla Caves feature viharas (monasteries) created for the Buddhist monks, who used to gather here to live and pray.
Reaching the Karla Caves involves a walk up a steep flight of 350 steps from the base of the hill (or nearly 200 steps from the car park half way up the hill). The steps are usually lined with vendors selling religious paraphernalia plus snacks and drinks and there’s even a vegetarian restaurant in the car park.

The Karla Caves are located above the village of Karla in Maharashtra. Karla is located just off the Mumbai-Pune Expressway and is approximately a two-hour drive from Mumbai. Kasbah of the Udayas
On your visit to Rabat’s medina, take a few steps farther north to explore the 12th-century Kasbah of the Udayas, the city’s oldest quarter, which was built during the Almohad dynasty. Kanheri Caves
Deep in the Sanjay Gandhi National Park, the Kanheri Caves comprise 109 basalt grottos that were carved between the first century BC and the 10th century AD. The caves served as Buddhist monastic dwellings for many centuries, and some of the newer ones feature intricate carvings, pillars, and even rock-cut cisterns.

The Kanheri Caves are accessible by steep stone steps. The first cave visitors reach is Great Chaitya, featuring a large meditation hall full of intricate stone carvings and pillars. Many of the inscriptions on the cave walls are in the Brahmi script, which was likely at its peak at some point in the fourth and fifth centuries BC. Many of the myriad scripts used in India today descended from Brahmi, including Devanagari, which is used for writing Hindi and Sanskrit.

Kaohsiung
Taiwan’s second largest city was once a gritty, industrial port town, but in recent years it has undergone a revitalization that makes it a must-see destination for inventive food, endless sun and some of the biggest night markets in Taiwan. The Kaisyuan Night Market—open Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday—has 1,000 stalls serving an incredible variety of foods, from fried squid to papaya milk.

While there you can visit the Dragon Tiger Pagodas—enter through the dragon’s mouth to explore the pair of towers before leaving through the tiger’s mouth.
