Guinness Storehouse
The Basics
The 7-story, pint glass-shaped interior of the Guinness brewery and storehouse features a multimedia experience that includes interactive exhibits and demonstrations of the brewing process. On the self-guided tour, learn the history behind the legendary stout and check out vintage ads. Touch the barley, smell the hops, and learn the art of pouring a perfect pint, plus get a peek into the history of Guinness advertising. After getting familiar with the main ingredients in Guinness, learn about the brewing process and the variations that are on the market. Floors two through six take you back in time to discover the history behind Arthur Guinness, the company, and the Guinness Storehouse itself. On the ground floor, visit the retail store for Guinness-themed souvenirs.
At the top-floor, glass-enclosed Gravity Bar, the culmination of the seven-story visitor experience, line up to claim your free pint of Guinness to enjoy with 360-degree views over the brewery and the city of Dublin. Some tours and tickets offer skip-the-line privileges, allowing you to bypass the (sometimes long) queue.
- Storehouse admission includes one complimentary pint.
- Opt for a skip-the-line ticket for fast-track entry.
- Dublin city tours, beer and spirits-themed tours of Temple Bar, and hop-on, hop-off bus tours typically stop here; the self-guided tour inside is easy to follow on your own.
- The storehouse is handicap accessible.
- Book the Connoisseur Experience for an exclusive, 75-minute tasting experience.
How to Get There
The storehouse is located in central Dublin at St. James’s Gate, easily accessible on foot, by taxi, or via public transportation.
When to Get There
If you don’t mind sipping a pint in the morning, it’s advisable to arrive early to beat the crowds. Hours vary seasonally.
History of the Guinness Storehouse
The site of the current storehouse was originally a fermentation plant for the St. James’s Gate Brewery until it closed in 1988. The building was the first multi-story, steel-framed building constructed in the entire country of Ireland, designed in the Chicago School of Architecture style.

Gyeongbokgung Palace
The royal palace grounds stretch for 100 acres (40.5 hectares) and offer a number of sights to see, including the Gyeonghoeru Pavilion, Hyangwonjeong Pond, and the National Folk Museum of Korea, which features more than 98,000 artifacts that detail Korean history and culture. Other highlights are the Third Inner Gate (Geunjeongmun), the Throne Hall (Geunjeongjeon), the Executive Office (Sajeongjeon), and, of course, the king's and queen's quarters. If you can time your visit right, you'll get to see the twice-daily royal guard-changing ceremony at Gwanghwamun Gate, the imposing main gate that separates the palace from one of the busiest parts of the city. Get ready to see full Joseon-era regalia in all its glory.
A stop at Gyeongbokgung Palace is included in most of Seoul city tours and on just about every royalty-themed tour of Seoul. Visit on a bus or walking tour that includes entry and you can explore all parts of the complex while also stopping at other cultural sites such as Jogyesa Temple, Bukchon Hanok Village, and Namsangol Hanok Village.
Things to Know Before You Go
- Wear comfortable shoes for exploring the complex's vast grounds.
- Some areas of the palace complex offer limited access for wheelchairs.
- Last admission is offered one hour before closing. The palace is closed on Tuesdays.
- Restrooms are available onsite.
- Pets are not allowed at the palace.
How to Get There
The closest metro station is the aptly named Gyeongbokgung Station (Seoul Subway Line 3). Get out at Exit 5 and you'll emerge right at the palace grounds. A parking lot sits to the left of the palace.
When to Get There
Gyeongbokgung Palace is open from Wednesday to Monday year-round, and on weekdays, it’s often full of touring Korean schoolchildren. Fall is a popular time to visit thanks to the autumn foliage that turns a deep red, while springtime brings cherry blossoms. If you want to see Gyeongbokgung Palace at its quietest, come early in the morning. (The Korean palace complex opens at 9am throughout the year but has varying closing hours.) The site is huge, though, so you should be able to find some peace and quiet no matter the time of day.

Hadrian's Arch
The Arch, standing in front of the once magnificent Temple of Olympian Zeus (the Olympieion), formed a symbolic gateway between the old city district and the new Roman-built city, erected by Hadrian. Notably, two inscriptions feature on the sides of the arch: the western side, looking onto the old city reads ‘ This is Athens, the ancient city of Theseus’ and the eastern side, facing the Olympieion, reads ‘This is the city of Hadrian and not of Theseus’. The exact meaning of the latter phrase is hotly disputed – some say it is simply naming the new city as that of Hadrian; others insist it was a deliberate contradiction of the former statement, indicating that the entire city was now ruled by Hadrian.
Today the main structure of Hadrian’s Arch remains remarkably preserved and is one of the most popular attractions of modern Athens. Towering at a height of 18 meters, the fully symmetrical Roman-style arch is an impressive sight – sculpted entirely from Pentelic marble, adorned with Ionic architraves and crowned with a row of Corinthian columns and pilasters.
