Gasteig
The exterior of the Gasteig hardly reveals the cultural center's dedication to the arts, but inside, the halls host some of the most outstanding performers that come to Munich. Home to the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra, the Richard Strauss Conservatory, the Volkshochschule (education), and the municipal library, the Gasteig is a place to delight the senses and enrich the mind.
Gasteig is also the primary site for the Filmfest Munchen with concert halls that can accommodate over 2,000 people like the Philarmonie, or a more intimate setting with the 120 seats in the Black Box hall. The smaller theaters most often host renowned theater and dance troupes. The wide variety of cultural entertainment and performance at the Gasteig truly make it Munich's "Kulturzentrum".
Practical Info
The Philharmonic Hall's wood-paneled shell structure creates great acoustics for instrumental and vocal performance. But if chamber music isn't your style, there are also cafes and shops to explore in Gasteig.

The enlightening exhibits include the chance to experience a waterfall from a ‘fish eye view’ or follow a Galway Salmon on its journey from the Corrib River to Galway Bay. There’s even an enormous skeleton of a Fin Whale on display.

Gallipoli
For many Australians and New Zealanders visitors, Gallipoli is the focus of their trip to Turkey.
During World War I, the tiny cove on the Dardanelles was the site of a long and entrenched skirmish between Turkish and Allied troops. Horrendous casualties resulted on both sides, and for the Allies the operation was a failure.
These days Gallipoli is synonymous with the incompetence of Britain’s leaders and the sacrifice of the empire’s Commonwealth soldiers. The leader of the Turkish troops was none other than Ataturk, who went on to lead Turkey into the modern era.
The Gallipoli Peninsula is now a national park, with moving memorials to those who died here almost a century ago. Antipodean visitors come here in their thousands to commemorate ANZAC Day on 25 April.
Practical Info
Gallipoli is 350 km (200 miles) west from Istanbul, along the Sea of Marmara. Coaches leave from Istanbul’s main bus station, but you’ll have more freedom to sightsee if you hire a car or a private tour. The drive from Istanbul to Gallipoli takes around five hours.
Unless you’ve boned up on history, take a tour to get the most out of your visit to Gallipoli.
