Wotten Waven Sulphur Springs
Deep in the Roseau Valley, Wotten Waven is a small town where you'll find geothermal hot springs that have attracted travelers with their muscle-soothing minerals for centuries. These unique features can be found here because the town sits atop the Wotten Waven Caldera, one of nine active volcanoes on the island. Today the town has become something of a natural spa retreat, with a variety of establishments offering hot water and mud baths fueled by the natural hot springs. A day tour of the community includes a hike along the sulphur river, where the rocks are stained yellow from the mineral and vents steam and bubble with volcanic mud. After a local lunch you can take soak in one of the community pools and relax amid the peaceful rainforest backdrop.
Practical Info

Singapore Food Treats
The Singapore Food trail is a massive themed food palace located in the famous Singapore Flyer designed to bring back the cultural glory days of the1960s. With more than 600 seats, the throwback dining hall contains dozens of makeshift food stalls, hawkers and shops that are all there to show off the golden years of Singapore' street culture.
Most of the stalls have some variation of local fare on offer, including delicious satay, barbequed seafood, fried oysters and even some of the lesser known foods such as Rong Chen Bah Kut Teh.
What is perhaps most impressive about the whole experience is the decor. The stationary stalls and hawkers are placed in an area painted like the old streets with vintage posters and signs and there is even an old rickshaw to take your photo with.

Designed by architect Adolf Tiers, this is the fourth Parisian theater to bear the same name, the first opening in 1827 on Salle de la Bourse to host comic operas and satirical plays. Uaxactún
Uaxatún (wa-sha-TOON) is best known as the most accurate observatory in the Mayan world. The city was founded centuries before Tikal, and may well be the birthplace of the Mayan calendar and writing system; the oldest known arch in the Mayan world is also here. It was conquered by Tikal in 378AD, but probably become a learning center for elites from the capital, rather than a vassal state.
Today, its pyramids and plazas are interspersed with the tiny houses of a modern village (also called Uaxatún), once dedicated to the gathering of chicle. Tourism is now a small but growing business.
The city's original Mayan name, Siaan K'aan, or "Born in Heaven" reflects the city's astronomical obsession. Solstices are marked by temple pyramids, which form part of the oldest known Mayan calendar. While crowds come to see these impressive alignments, you may have the site to yourself other times of year.

Villa de Leyva
Situated far from any major trade routes in a high-altitude valley, the colonial town of Villa de Leyva has seen little development over the last 400 years. As a result, it is one of the few towns in Colombia that has seemingly frozen in time, with much of its original style and architecture still intact; its streets are paved in stone and many of its whitewashed buildings date back to the 16th century.
While this photogenic town remains a sleepy and traditional place during the week, in recent years it has attracted an influx of tourists and expats on weekends. As a result, a number of hotels, restaurants and tourist shops have sprung up, and the town's narrow alleys become abuzz with day-trippers from Bogota each Saturday and Sunday.
Most people tend to visit Villa de Leyva on a day trip from Bogota, but to fully appreciate this charming colonial town, join a three-day tour instead.
Practical Info
Villa de Leyva is about a three-hour drive from Bogota. It's possible to catch a bus from the city; they leave hourly throughout the morning and mid-afternoon.
Did You Know? In 1954, the town of Villa de Leyva was declared a national monument in order to protect and preserve its ancient architecture.

Verdun
Northeast France isn't a regular tourist destination -- most visitors don't venture past Reims, with its gorgeous cathedral and Champagne culture. But just a bit farther east is a city worth visiting, one that is well-known among World War I buffs: Verdun.
Founded by the Celtic Gauls more than 2,000 years ago, Verdun is located on the River Meuse near the borders of Belgium, Luxembourg and Germany. It was the site of the longest and most brutal battle of World War I, the Battle of Verdun, which raged through most of 1916. The German and French sides suffered a combined 700,000 casualties, and although the French won, the victory was seen as a blight on the war because of the sheer number of soldiers wounded, lost or dead. The losses were ultimately deemed unnecessary.
The battlefield, which is only six square miles, can still be visited today. There are also several cemeteries and memorials in the area around Verdun where people from around the world can pay their respects to the fallen. The most visited is the Douaumont ossuary, a tribute to the soldiers who lost their lives. Although moving, the ossuary is not for the faint of heart; there are piles of actual human bones throughout the structure.
However, the museum itself is astounding, and both the monument and the cemetery of more than 16,000 graves are must-see attractions for those looking to gain perspective on the scale of what soldiers from both sides darkly nicknamed "The Hell of Verdun."
Practical Info
The ossuary is located in Douaumont off route D913, and it is closed from Christmas Day through Valentine's Day each year. In February and March, it is open from 9 a.m. to noon and from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. During the rest of the year, it is open from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. on weekdays and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekends. The cost per adult is 6.00€, with discounts for children, students, seniors and service-persons in uniform.
