Camp and kayak in the Stockholm's archipelago during this 3-day outdoor adventure. Follow an expert kayak guide, who will provide informative commentary about the culture and history of the archipelago, for three days of paddling and camping amongst the pristine islands. Between stops at the tiny harbor villages, keep your eyes open for native wildlife like oystercatchers and seals in the Swedish wilderness. This small-group tour is limited to 8 people and is available in both beginner and intermediate versions. All meals and the use of tents and kayaks is included.

What To Expect

Make your way to Runmaro Island for an afternoon departure on the first day of the tour. If traveling from Stockholm, you may wish to take the bus from Slussen (independently and at own expense.) The bus takes approximately 45 minutes.After an introduction and safety briefing, set out with your expert adventure guide for a 3-day trip through the islands. Some of these 30,000 islands are home to small fishing villages and harbor towns, but many are uninhabited. The area is a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its untouched natural beauty, unusual in such close proximity to a bustling, cosmopolitan city like Stockholm.All supplies, 2-person tents and kayaks are provided. You'll receive a packing checklist beforehand of what to bring with you. Single tents are available for an additional fee.Your beginner or intermediate tour will spend the days paddling around the islands and enjoying the scenery and wildlife, with stops at different sites to stretch your legs, explore and refuel with snacks and meals. Learn about the geology and wildlife of the islands from your expert guide as he or she leads you safely and expertly through the territory. The weather and the group's preferences will determine the trajectory of each day's paddle. In the evenings, camp on the islands in 2-person tents or out under the stars. Eat meals together around the campfire (weather permitting), cooked by your guide on an outdoor stove.Please note: the routes and islands mentioned in the Itinerary below are examples only and may change according to the weather and routes decided on each day.ItineraryDay 1: StavsnÃ¤s Vinterhamn â€“ RunmarÃ¶ - first paddle (D)Around midday, take the bus from Stockholm to the port of StavsnÃ¤s Vinterhamn. Meet your guide and depart by taxi boat to the island of RunmarÃ¶, your main base for your tour. After a safety briefing, try out your equipment and kayak. Even beginners find this easy, especially with your guide to help you master things.When youâ€™re ready, take your first paddle around RunmarÃ¶. One of the archipelagoâ€™s best kayaking areas, its shallow waters are home to oystercatchers, terns, turnstones and seals. Glide silently between the shores and breathe in the tranquility and beauty â€” youâ€™ll instantly see why this collection of islands is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.Afterward, perhaps try your luck fishing and savor a typical Swedish dinner cooked outdoors. At night, choose to sleep under the stars or share a spacious, 2-person domed tent. Either way, a comfortable air mattress and sleeping bag is provided, although you can bring your own sleeping kit if you wish.Overnight: Campsite on RunmarÃ¶Day 2: On the water (B, L, D)After a good nightâ€™s sleep, enjoy an early morning swim before breakfast. Then, weather permitting, pack up your equipment, and head off in your kayak. The islands are perfect for kayaking, with no tides or strong currents and plenty of sheltered, lee shores. Before you leave, chat with your guide about your preferences for the day's itinerary as they set out a route depending on the conditions.Paddle towards the open sea to BullerÃ¶, a stunning island and nature reserve, with rich birdlife. With its rocks, meadows and heathland brim with wild cloudberries, this idyllic spot has a single, tiny village. Drift around its shores, watch for seabirds, and hear about the archipelagoâ€™s nature and history from your guide. BullerÃ¶ was home to the Swedish artist Bruno Liljefors, who painted here in the early 1900s. Head for the museum in his former studio to learn more about the local flora, fauna and history, and then explore BullerÃ¶â€™s picturesque village.Return to your kayak and paddle to your next campsite. Before dinner, perhaps enjoy a walk or swim, or just sit on one of the smooth, sun-warmed rocks and soak up the wonderful peace and quiet.Overnight: Campsite on BullerÃ¶ or other islandDay 3: On the water â€“ RunmarÃ¶ - StavsnÃ¤s Vinterhamn (B, L)Rise early and maybe take a dawn paddle to enjoy the morning light and perhaps spot white-tailed sea eagles wheeling in the air. After breakfast, cruise around new inlets, islets and rocks. If conditions allow, paddle to the outer skerries to experience the true wilderness of the archipelago â€” youâ€™ll feel like youâ€™re light years from the modern world. Later, paddle back to RunmarÃ¶ to pack and tidy up before your transfer back to StavsnÃ¤s Vinterhamn, where your tour ends in the late afternoon. Say a fond farewell to your guide and return to Stockholm by bus.
