What To Expect
Begin with pickup at your hotel, where you'll board a luxury bus for the 125-mile (200-km) trip to Chichen Itza from Cancun. You'll have access to bathrooms on board the air-conditioned bus, and you can catch a nap in a reclining seat after eating a gourmet continental breakfast of a baguette sandwich, all-natural juice, and coffee. Enter Chichen Itza for a guided tour of the site, which is dominated by the dramatic pyramid known as El Castillo. You'll see a mix of Maya and Toltec architectural styles in Chichen Itza, where two powerful cultures blended and adapted their traditions over 1,000 years. In addition to El Castillo, Chichen Itza's surviving structures include an enormous Maya ball court, the Warriors Temple, and a circular observatory called 'El Caracol.' After visiting the site, continue to a cenote: Maya people considered these limestone caverns a connection to the underworld, and used them for fresh water, cultivation, and ceremonies. Pause for a traditional lunch at a local restaurant, then return to the bus, where you'll have access to an open bar during the drive back to your hotel in Cancun.
