What To Expect
Begin with pickup at your Ho Chi Minh City hotel, then travel to Cu Chi in a private, air-conditioned vehicle. Learn the history of the tunnels as you drive: the Cu Chi network were developed during the war for independence from the French, then expanded during the war with the United States, known in Vietnam as the American War. Explore secret trap doors that hid the entrances from outsiders, and find underground kitchens, living areas, and meeting rooms. Find out about life in the tunnels during the wars, and how they were used to launch the decisive Tet Offensive in 1968. After visiting the tunnels, return to Ho Chi Minh City to see the Reunification Palace, where the war came to an end in 1975 after negotiations between northern and southern leaders. The former Presidential Palace is now preserved as a museum, with underground bunkers, and displays of war-era artifacts. Make a final stop at the War Remnants Museum, whose exhibits document the human tragedies of the two decade-long war. Take in exhibits that depict civilian casualties and the long-term effects of the war alongside displays of tanks, airplanes, and weapons. This tour concludes with return transfer to your hotel in Ho Chi Minh City.
