What To Expect
This area of Arizona is so rich in Native American history and culture. On this full-day trip from Phoenix, you will visit ancient ruins at either Tuzigoot National Monument or Montezuma Castle National Monument. One of the largest pueblos ever built by the Sinagua some time between 1100 and 1450 AD is at Tuzigoot National Monument. You'll see the ruins of a building that once consisted of two stories and 110 rooms. Wonderfully preserved Montezuma Castle National Monument is an easily accessible structure built into a cliff about 70 feet (21 meters) above the ground. Here, find an impressive five stories and 20 distinct rooms. Before returning to Phoenix, visit The Chapel of the Holy Cross, a modern chapel built into the buttes, as well as massive Bell Rock, one of Sedona's most popular red rock formations. You'll likely find the red-rock formations of Sedona awe-inspiring. Don't forget your camera to capture the vast landscapes.
