What To Expect
This tour begins at the Egyptian Museum of Turin, whose location in the heart of the city is convenient to taxi service and public transport. Follow your guide on a carefully-chosen route through the museum's four stories, passing through galleries that focus on time periods and themes: see exhibits dedicated to the Old Kingdom, the Middle Kingdom, and New Kingdom, then explore the Ptolemaic period, and finally the Roman period. If you're with a group of five or more people, you'll get a wireless headset so you won't miss a word of explanation. Visit the Papyrus Room to see ancient writing and images, and learn the story of the Gebelein Canvas; along with six mummies, this was excavated from a shallow, sandy grave in the Egyptian Desert whose contents were well preserved by the arid sand. See pieces that bring the daily experiences of ancient Egyptians to life, then take in the colossal statues and amulets that illustrate their religious beliefs. This tour concludes at the museum, which you're free to continue exploring on your own.
