What To Expect
The first stop on your three-temple tour of Bangkok is Wat Triamit, known for housing the Golden Buddha, a 12,000-pound (5,500-kg) statue of Buddha made from solid gold. For nearly 200 years, the statue was covered in plaster to keep it hidden from plunderers, but today, you can admire it in all its glory. Next, head to Wat Pho, aka the Temple of the Reclining Buddha. One of the biggest and oldest temples in Bangkok, Pho dates back to the 17th century and is home to more than 1,000 Buddha images in addition to the reclining statue, which measures 150 feet long (46 meters) and is covered in gold leaf. Wat Pho is also known for its traditional Thai massage school. Finally, visit Wat Benchamabophit, which features a combination of Thai and European architecture. This temple is famous for its construction out of Italian marble, including Cararra marble pillars. Your tour ends with a stop at the Gems Gallery, where you can browse the large collection of stones and jewelry. Perhaps you'll find the perfect souvenir or gift to take home.
