What To Expect
Start with 8:30am pickup at your hotel in Zagreb, then travel to the village of Kumrovec, the birthplace of Josip Broz Tito, who was the Marshal of Yugoslavia until his death in 1980. Learn about the leader's background, life, and achievements in the Staro Selo Museum, which preserves Tito's birthplace along with a collection of restored houses that offer a fascinating glimpse of traditional life in Croatia. The next stop of the day is Trakoscan Castle, a hilltop fortification that was established in the 13th century, with picture-perfect views across a forest and lake. Explore collections of weapons, paintings, furniture, and books from throughout the castle's long history, and if desired, you can take a boat ride on the adjoining lake. Continue to the city of Varaždin, often called Croatia's "Little Vienna" for its beautifully preserved baroque architecture. Take a walking tour through the town, where you'll find a city museum, parks, and gardens, along with a beautiful cemetery with gracious, tree-lined alleys. Following your time in Varaždin, make the return trip to Zagreb, where this tour concludes with drop-off at your hotel.
