What To Expect
After hotel pickup in Reykjavik, your private tour starts as you hop aboard your super Jeep and take off from the city with your guide. Enjoy a scenic drive through southwest Iceland, admiring views of the volcanic environment of the Reykjanes Peninsula, a piece of the island home to hot springs, sulfur springs, and valleys that flow into dark rocks and gaping craters. Underground volcanic activity and cooled lava soil prohibit vegetation from growing here, so you'll see bald landscapes that look lunar-like. Visit a lava field to take a short hike to the entrance of the lava caves. You'll explore two during this tour, following your guide through the caves and learning about their formation, which can occur when lava drains during a volcanic eruption. A helmet with a light is provided so you can look around at your surroundings inside the caves, such as rock formations, ice formations, stalagmites, and stalactites. Your tour ends with return to Reykjavik for drop-off. Please note: This tour requires some crawling and walking on uneven ground, but it's not difficult.
