What To Expect
Make your way to the Luxembourg American Cultural Center in Belgium, a rural town surrounded by small farms and Lake Michigan shorefront. Use your voucher for entry at the cultural center, and take in a series of small exhibits using an audio phone tour. Begin at the Roots and Leaves Museum, which is housed in a Luxembourgian-style stone barn built by a Luxembourg immigrant in 1872. Trace the story of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg through waves of 19th-century immigration, and learn about the lives of Luxembourgers in America. Visitors of Luxembourger descent can trace their own roots back to Europe in the onsite research library, with records dating to the 1640s. In addition to surname files, the research library has church records, immigration and ships' passenger lists, and microfilm copies of the Luxembourg Gazette newspaper starting in 1871. Before leaving the museum, stroll through the Luxembourg American Cultural Center gardens, where you'll find a modern sculpture of Our Lady of Luxembourg.
