What To Expect
In the morning, meet your guide upon pickup from your centrally located hotel in Beijing. You're transported in the comfort of a private vehicle during the 1.5-hour drive to the Great Wall of China at Mutianyu, a UNESCO World Heritage site.On arrival, a chair lift or cable car ticket is provided to more easily ascend the wall. Take your time to marvel at this wondrous structure and its surroundings, including dense woods and verdant pastures looking north toward Mongolia. Learn from your own personal guide about the original construction of the Mutianyu section of the Great Wall during the Northern Qi Dynasty (550-577) and its restoration during the early Ming Dynasty (1368-1644).You can choose to ride the cable car or toboggan down. Then, it's about a 40-minute drive to a local restaurant for lunch featuring authentic Chinese dishes.Continue to Beijing and the Drum Tower where you have the opportunity to climb to the top for a bird's-eye view of a 20-minute drumming performance. Afterward, ride a rickshaw through the hutongs - narrow alleys full of the Chinese history. Weave past traditional-style gates and shops while your guide answers any questions you have.Conclude your private tour with transport back to your hotel.
