What To Expect
Begin with pickup at your hotel in Cairo or Giza, then travel to the Egyptian Museum in a private car with a driver/guide. The sprawling museum houses a vast trove of mummies, statues, artwork, and royal treasures, including those found in the tomb of King Tutankhamun - visiting the museum with a guide ensures you won't miss out on any of the collection highlights. Take in the most important pieces, then enjoy some free time to wander the museum on your own. After the Egyptian Museum, visit the Madrassa of Sultan Hassan, a Mamluk-era landmark that's one of the largest mosques in the world. Hear the story of the young Sultan's dramatic rule and explore the mosque's grand courtyard, then continue to the Gayer Anderson Museum. Once the home of a British major, the museum building itself is a fascinating artifact, one of Cairo's best-preserved 17th-century houses filled with a wide-ranging collection of domestic antiques and artwork. Make the final stops of the day at the Citadel of Saladin and the Aqsunqur Mosque, another Mamluk gem that's known as the Blue Mosque for its intricate blue tile work. Tour the mosque with the guide, then finish the day with return transfer to your hotel.
