In the center of the square stands Chairman Mao Memorial Hall (aka Mausoleum of Mao Zedong). From Tiananmen Gate you can walk to the UNESCO-listed Forbidden City to explore the world's largest imperial palace. Learn about the two dozen emperors who ruled here over the centuries, from the Ming to the Qing dynasties. After spending roughly 2 hours visiting the halls and private quarters of this cultural highlight, a stop is made for lunch (own expense) at a restaurant recommended by your guide. In the afternoon, you have the opportunity to ride a rickshaw (own expense) through the hutongs - narrow alleys that weave through the old neighborhoods of Beijing. Discover 700 hundred years of Chinese history and see where locals currently reside. After the tour, your guide will send you back to your hotel via public transportation.
