What To Expect
Get an early start on the day with 5am pickup at your hotel in Marsa Alam, then begin the 4-hour trip to Luxor in a private, air-conditioned vehicle. Upon arrival in Luxor, meet a local guide for the first stop of the day, the sprawling Temple of Karnak. Walk down the Avenue of Sphinxes that once stretched 1.5 miles (2.4 km.) to the neighboring Temple of Luxor, and discover the Great Hypostyle Hall and the Temple of Amun-Re. You'll also find obelisks dedicated to Tutmosis I and Queen Hatshepsut, as well as a Sacred Lake that priests once used for ancient rituals. Pause for lunch, then cross the Nile River to see the West Bank sites, starting with the Valley of the Kings. You'll make stops at three of the many tombs in the desert valley (and if you'd like to visit Tutankhamun's tomb, your guide can arrange tickets at an additional cost). Continue to the Temple of Medinet Habu, the funeral temple of Pharaoh Ramses III, entering the Syrian-style gate to see a palace, chapels, workshops, and temples. The last stop of the day is to see the iconic Colossi of Memonon, a pair of 60-foot (18-meter), massive statues that depict Amenhotep III. After you've taken in the site, say goodbye to your guide and begin the return trip to Marsa Alam. This 14-hour tour concludes with hotel drop-off at roughly 7pm.
