What To Expect
Begin with pickup at your Yangon hotel or at the Yangon airport, and plan the perfect day of sightseeing with a local guide. Head into the heart of downtown Yangon to see Sule Pagoda, a golden stupa that has been a rallying point in local politics, and is said to contain a strand of the Buddha's hair. Continue to Bogyoke Market, the biggest shopping center in the city, where you can browse for traditional handiwork, clothing, and food - your guide can offer tips on finding and bargaining for unique souvenirs. Pause for a traditional Burmese lunch in a local caf e, then continue to Chaukhtatgyi Pagoda, whose enormous reclining Buddha statue stretches 213 feet (65 mt) from a gilded headpiece to red-painted feet. After visiting the temple, make your way to a nearby caf e for afternoon tea, an important tradition throughout Myanmar. Spend the afternoon at the iconic Shwedagon Pagoda, the oldest pagoda in the country. Visible from around the city, the Shwedagon Padoga is covered with 11 tons of solid gold, and topped with thousands of diamond and rubies, and is an important pilgrimage place for local buddhists. After visiting the Shwedagon Pagoda, finish the day with return transfer to your hotel or the airport.
