What To Expect
Begin with pickup at your hotel in Cairo or Giza, then travel to the City of the Dead, or Qarafa, in an air-conditioned minivan with Wi-Fi onboard. Used as a burial ground since the 10th century, the City of the Dead is both a cemetery and a fascinating living community, where families live, work, and play amongst the graves. Visit the graveyard with a local guide to learn about life in Qarafa, and see the highlights of this unique destination. Continue to the Citadel of Cairo, a medieval Islamic fortification with panoramic views of the city. See the city's most iconic mosque - the Alabaster Mosque built by Mohamed Ali Pasha - whose domes and slender minarets are classic examples of Ottoman-style architecture. Tour a courtyard that's entirely lined in alabaster, see the ornate interior of the domes, and take in the brass clock tower that King Louis Philippe offered to Muhammad Ali in 1845. After visiting the Alabaster Mosque, make the return trip to your hotel, where this tour concludes.
