What To Expect
After hotel pickup in Reykjavik in the morning, your tour starts by heading north from the city toward Snaefellsjökull National Park, driving through a 3.5-mile (5.7-km) tunnel under the ocean along the way. When you reach the Snaefellsnes Peninsula, most famous from Jules Verne's Journey to the Center of the Earth, make your first stop at Arnarstapi, a fishing village known for its bird life and coastal views. Then pass through Hellnar, another village where you can have lunch (own expense) before arriving at your second stop, Lóndrangar, a rock formation of volcanic basalt plugs that stand 246 feet tall (75 meters) on the coastline. Continue to DjÃÆúpalónssandur, a black-sand beach that makes a great photo op with its rocks and remnants of a shipwreck from the 1940s. (On the way to this stop, you have the option to visit a cave, if you wish; you must contact the tour operator after booking if you want to make arrangements for a cave tour.)Depending on the time, you may be able to visit more attractions that suit your interests; your guide can adjust the tour route accordingly. Your tour ends with return to Reykjavik for drop-off.
