What To Expect
Following hotel pickup in the morning by private vehicle, your personal guide accompanies you to Deoksugung Palace. Explore the walled complex, one of the Five Grand Palaces in Seoul established during the Joseon Dynasty. Here, you'll find both traditional Korean architecture and Western-style neoclassical structures. Wander among the ponds and gardens before proceeding onto the tree-lined cobblestone path of Jeongdong-gil. Discover Seoul's storied history and cultural heritage on this picturesque street flanked by stately palace walls; it was officially named the first 'Beautiful Street for Walking' by the Seoul Metropolitan Government. The next stop on your full-day itinerary is Baejae Hakdang, the first Methodist mission school established in Korea. Learn about the school's focus on English language instruction and how it became a recognized institution since the 19th century. After lunch at a local restaurant, it's on to the Jeoldusan Martyrs' Shrine. Literally translated as 'Beheading Hill,' Jeoldusan is the historic site of the Byeonin Persecution of 1866 when many Roman Catholics were brutally murdered. Following a visit to the Martyrs' Museum and Memorial, get another sobering look at Seoul's tragic past at the Seodaemun Prison History Hall.Used to incarcerate Korean independence activists during the time of Japanese colonial rule from 1910 until 1945, the museum stands as a reminder of human cruelty and oppression. See exhibitions including lifelike re-creations of torture scenes in the nightmarish interrogation cells in the basement.Your private tour of Seoul concludes with the return to your hotel. Please note: A minimum of two people per booking is required.
