What To Expect
Your tour starts in the morning with hotel pickup by your private guide for the drive outside the Aurelian Walls of Rome to the Catacombe di San Callisto. Explore these ancient burial grounds, learning about early Christian traditions, and then return to Rome to visit the Basilica di San Clemente al Laterano, known for its architecture of three layers, the oldest of which dates back to the 1st century when it was a temple to a pagan god. See the Mithraeum on the basement level of the basilica, whose present structure was finished in 1120. Then return to central Rome to visit the Capuchin Crypt at Santa Maria della Concezione dei Cappuccini. Known as the 'Bone Church,' the crypt is full of the bones of deceased friars adorning the walls and ceiling. When your time here is up, your tour ends at Piazza Barberini.
