As you hike towards the immensely powerful Petrohue Waterfalls, marvel at fragrant forests, rushing rivers and immense volcanoes.Climb aboard a small ferry and set sail over the tranquil water of Todos los Santos Lake; admire the picturesque perimeter of Andean foothills as you approach the archaic hamlet of Peulla, casting your eye over the prominent peaks of the Pontiagudo and El Tronador volcano.Disembark at Peulla, a town that rests upon the Argentinian border, and enjoy a light and leisurely lunch in a luxurious hotel (own expense). Next, cross the border between countries, clear customs the continue the curvaceous journey to Puerto Frias, which involves a boat trip acorss the turquoise-tinted water of Felix Frias Lake.Arrive at the pretty port town of Puerto Panuelo and enjoy a short and scenic bus ride to the stunning city of Bariloche, a popular resort sprawled along the shore of the Nahuel Huapi Lake. If you have selected the round-trip option, see the Itinerary below for further details.ItineraryRound-Trip Lakes Crossing: Puerto Varas - Bariloche (2 days)This option is ideal if you're based in Puerto Varas and would like time to explore Bariloche and the area surrounding Nahuel Huapi Lake before heading back to Chile. If you love to ski, shop, rock the nightclubs, or adore chocolate, spend a few days in Bariloche. Choose a return date that suits your schedule and savor the same stunning passage through the Andean lakes back to Puerto Varas (see tour details above).Destinations during the return trip do not change, you'll experience different wonders. As you sail along Nahuel Huapi Lake aboard a catamaran, marvel at its morning-lit beauty. Admire the surrounding lush rainforests and catch sight of diverse birdlife while listening to lake lore and history. Then take a bus ride for 2 miles (3 km) on a picturesque route that hugs Frías River up to Puerto Alegre. During the 20-minute ship cruise across Felix Frías Lake, capture different angles of the extinct El Tronador volcano, the region's highest mountain, and then go through customs in Puerto Frias.During the bus ride to Peulla, soak up views of the dense vegetation that blanket the Andes and ogle at the nine glaciers topping Tronador. Complete entry formalities in Peulla, after which you'll enjoy free time to purchase lunch (own expense).Midafternoon, set sail on Todos los Santos Lake with new views of Osorno, Tronador and Puntiagudo volcanoes (weather permitting). Stop at Petrohu e Waterfalls (admission not included) and take a final gander of Llanquihue Lake and Osorno and Calbuco volcanoes before arriving at Puerto Varas at approximately 7pm. Important: During winter, there won't be a stop at Petrohu e Falls since the viewpoint closes at 6pm. Instead, passengers will stop at a panoramic window to take pictures.
