What To Expect
Meet a guide near the Vatican Museums, then walk right past the line on your way into the site, which is the official museum of Vatican City. Begin a 3-hour tour of the Vatican Museum's artistic highlights, including courtyards, galleries of marble sculptures, tapestries, chandeliers, and ancient maps. Enter the Sistine Chapel, and take some time to explore Michelangelo's masterpiece frescoes, with the Last Judgment and the Creation of Adam high above the room. Follow a private route that links the Sistine Chapel with St. Peter's Basilica, where you'll finish the tour of the Vatican Museums by taking in the remarkable artwork and design element inside the church. After your time at the Vatican Museums, you'll have a break to eat lunch and relax, then hop a metro or hail a taxi to the next meeting point, outside the Colosseum. Your 3-hour afternoon tour is all about ancient history, starting with the the largest amphitheater ever built, where Romans once watched gladiatorial conflicts and performances. You'll learn about the Colosseum's architecture and history, with time to see both the first and second tiers. From the Colosseum, continue to Capitoline Hill, where the tour concludes on a terrace with views across the ancient Roman Forum.
