What To Expect
Meet your guide and small group at the tour office in front of the Gare de Reims, France, the main railway station. You'll board an 8-passenger minivan for a full-day tour that includes two Champagne tastings. Relax on the 30-minute drive to Épernay where you'll start with a guided tour of Moët & Chandon, a prestigious French winery and Champagne house that produces Dom Perignon. Learn about the corresponding history of its namesake, a 17th-century Benedictine monk who finalized the production process, and sip a glass of the world-renowned vintage.Stroll along the Avenue de Champagne while your guide points out the many opulent Maisons de Champagne, including Perrier-Jouët and Mercier with their massive cellars holding Champagne collections. Back on board your vehicle, you'll travel through a Marne Valley vineyard to see the grave of Dom Perignon in the church of the former Benedictine Abbey of Hautvillers.Lunch is at your leisure upon your guide's recommendation (own expense), before continuing your sightseeing of Reims, where you may recognize illustrious names such as Veuve Cliquot and Pommery.Next is a tour and Champagne tasting at Taittinger, whose grapes are evenly distributed over 34 different vineyards; they include some of the appellation's finest, with varietals consisting of 50% pinot noir, 15% pinot meunier, and 35% chardonnay.Your tour concludes with return transport to the starting point.Please note: wineries visited are subject to availability. Taittinger may be replaced by Mumm or Pommery, and Moët & Chandon may be replaced by Mercier or De Castellane.
