What To Expect
Start with 9:30am pickup at your hotel in Cappadocia, then travel past the Goreme Valley on your way to Derinkuyu Underground City, one of the best-preserved underground settlements in Cappadocia. Explore some of the chapels, refectories, stables, and cellars that were built to house up to 20,000 people, with excavations stretching 200 feet (61 meters) below ground level. Following your visit to Derinkuyu Underground City, continue to the Ihlara Valley, a 10-mile (16-kilometer) gorge with steep rock walls. You'll hike 2.5 miles (4 km) along the bottom of the valley, walking past a series of churches and houses that are carved directly into the rock faces. The trail leads straight into Belisirma Village, where you can refuel after your hike with lunch at a riverside restaurant. After the meal, begin the return trip to Cappadocia, with a stop at Selime Monastery along the way. The biggest monastery in Cappadocia, Selime Monastery was built by a group of Christian monks, with churches, chapels, and a cathedral that were later converted into a Silk Road caravanserai. This full-day tour concludes with drop-off at your hotel.
