What To Expect
Get picked up at your hotel or other location in central Verona. Climb into the awaiting vehicle and head first for the city of Vicenza and a villa with whimsical decorations. The Villa Valmarana ai Nani is not far from Palladio's famous villa, 'La Rotonda,' and owned by the same family. The word 'nani' means dwarves, and there are statues of 17 dwarves around the house. The statues stem from a story about the villa in which a dwarf princess leaps from the tower to her death when she realizes the handsome prince in her garden won't be able to see past her 'handicap.' The remaining dwarves are turned to stone in their grief. The villa is decorated with paintings by Tiepolo, considered fine examples of 18th-century artwork.Continue toward Bassano del Grappa, with a stop at Palladio's Olympic Theater. The structure is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the main attractions in Vicenza. Palladio was inspired in his design by ancient Roman theaters.Travel to Bassano del Grappa and enjoy free time to have lunch (own expense) and explore the town.Wander across the Ponte degli Alpini, the wooden bridge that spans the river, also designed by Palladio. Admire the views in both directions from the bridge. Visit the Museum of the Alpini for more history of the region. Stop for a drink in the Nardini tavern, which overlooks the river and bridge. Stop into one of the town's bars or distilleries to sample some locally-made grappa. At the appointed time, return to your awaiting vehicle and relax on the return trip to Verona. Return to your departure location at 7:30pm.Please note: A tour guide is not included with this experience; it is recommended that you bring along a guidebook.
