Start with pickup from your Reykjavik hotel or alternatively, meet your minivan or coach at a central location. Your trip will include a stop for lunch (own expense) at a country restaurant along the way. Settle into your vehicle, and view Iceland's stark landscapes as you travel north through the fjordlands of Borgarfjordur, known for their rich history and folk heritage. Stop at Deildartunguhver, a geothermal field that boasts Europe's most powerful hot spring. View the bubbling pools and capture photos of the billowing steam. Continue to the Hraunfossar waterfalls, a series of cascades formed by rivulets from lava fields. See the falls tumbling down rocks, and learn how the water streams for about 0.5 miles (900 meters) from the lava to the river. Next, travel to the Vídgelmir cave. The largest ever discovered in Iceland, and one of the world's biggest, this spectacular lava cave was created by a volcanic eruption 1,100 years ago, and is easily accessible to all ages, including children aged four and over, thanks its walkways and state-of-the-art lighting. On arrival, don your supplied helmet with a headlight attached, and take a tour led by an official guide. Descend into the depths and explore various chambers known for their geological formations. Admire the ice pinnacles, multi-colored walls, and lava stalagmites and stalactites as you learn about the cave's geology and history. After re-emerging into the daylight, head for the geothermal swimming pools at Húsafell. Filled with natural hot spring water, this outdoor complex boasts two family-friendly pools, a water chute, and hot tubs, all overlooking picturesque countryside. Change into your bathing suit and enjoy a relaxing dip in the pools, basking in the warm waters and setting. Lastly, return to Reykjavik, where your tour ends with a drop-off at or near your hotel.Please note: guests are recommended to bring their own bathing suits and towels to swim at Húsafell.
