Meet your guide, a professional art historian, at your central Xi'an hotel, and travel by private, air-conditioned vehicle to the Terracotta Warriors and Horses Museum, home to one of the world's greatest archaeological finds.On arrival, head inside and tour the excavation pits, where the thousands of life-size clay warriors stand as many were discovered in 1974. Marvel at the UNESCO-listed army, and learn how it was buried alongside China's first emperor, Qing Shi Huang, in the 3rd century BC.Explore the exhibition hall, where treasures found in the emperor's mausoleum are displayed, and visit the theater to watch a film on how the warriors were made more than 2,000 years ago. Learn about Qin Shi Huang, and discover how the individual warriors were originally assembled and painted.Then, browse the shops, perhaps purchasing souvenirs like replica warrior and horse statues, and other ornaments (own expense).Afterward, enjoy lunch at a local restaurant, and return to central Xi'an to visit the Giant Wild Goose Pagoda, another of the city's major landmarks. Situated in the Da Cien Temple, this elaborate pagoda was constructed in 652 under the Tang emperor, Gaozong. Admire the square-shaped, multi-tiered building as your guide recounts how it was built to house prized Buddhist scriptures brought from India by the monk Xuan Zang.Next, continue to Xi'an's City Wall, China's best-preserved and most complete city wall. Dating from the early Ming dynasty, this massive wall runs for 8.6 miles (14 kilometers), encircling Xian's old center. Take a walk on the battlements, absorbing the panoramic city views, and see some of its 98 ramparts, built around 393 feet (120 meters) apart, to prevent enemies from scaling the mighty structure.After visiting the wall, your tour finishes with a drop-off back at your hotel.
