The Fort of Copacabana is located between Copacabana and Arpoador. It was an important military fortress, built in the early 20th century and now deactivated. From the Copacabana Fort there is a fantastic view of the sea that opens up to the beach of Copacabana and also to the sea and beach of Arpoador and Ipanema. The area is quite large, and consists of millitary facilities that were quartiles annexed to a large bunker, which is a fortress or armored shelter with several tunnels and rooms housing ancient cannons, and surrounding areas in the open air where one can circulate or sit on benches to contemplate the surrounding countryside. In these surrounding areas, there are also cannons and military equipment exposed to the outdoors. The fortress is maintained well preserved, being its internal visitation with its numerous tunnels and armored rooms a great attraction.
