What To Expect
Day 1 Ayers Rock (D) Meet your driver guide and fellow travelers and take a drive to Uluṟu "“ Kata Tjuṯa National Park. Having inhabited the region for tens of thousands of years, Traditional Owners, the Anangu, have a strong connection with this land. Learn about Tjukurpa, the history, knowledge, religion, morality and law of the local Aboriginal people. Traveling to the spectacular domes of Kata Tjuṯa, walk the natural creek bed between two of the largest domes. Kata Tjuta has great cultural significance for the Anangu men. Later enjoy gourmet canapes and wine at the Uluru sunset viewing area. This evening get to know your fellow travelers over a delicious meal at Ilkari Restaurant.Hotel: Sails in the Desert Hotel, Ayers Rock Resort.Day 2 Ayers Rock "“ Kings Canyon (B,L,D) Start the day with sunrise over Kata Tjuṯa (the Olgas) and Uluṟu (Ayers Rock) from the Kata Tjuṯa dune viewing area. Then it's off to the Uluṟu "“ Kata Tjuṯa Cultural Centre for breakfast and insight into the history of the local Aṉangu People. Get oriented with Uluṟu (Ayers Rock) with an Indigenous guide/ translator from the local Mutitjulu Community (subject to availability). Walk around the base of Uluṟu and hear timeless stories, see rock art, and visit Mutiṯjulu Waterhole. Visit Curtin Springs Station for a barbecue lunch. Travel to Kings Canyon and view the "˜forgotten wonder' of Central Australia "“ Atila (Mt. Conner) and make a quick stop at Kings Creek Station. This evening you're treated to the unique dining experience, Under a Desert Moon, set under the Southern Night sky (weather permitting). Enjoy a glass of sparkling wine and canapes followed by a four course dinner. Hotel: Kings Canyon ResortDay 3 Kings Canyon "“ Alice Springs (B,L,D) Today you're off on a sunrise 3.7-mile (6-kilometer) Rim Walk of spectacular Kings Canyon. As you venture around the rim, highlights include the domed "˜Lost City', a stop at Cotterill's Lookout, and the luscious "˜Garden of Eden'. If you prefer a more relaxed walk you can walk along the Creek Bed. Afterwards we're off the beaten track, traveling to the Henbury Meteorite Conservation Reserve. Next, stop at Rainbow Valley famous for its sandstone bluffs and cliff faces. The colored layers in the sandstone cliffs are particularly beautiful in the afternoon light. Continue to Alice Springs and enjoy dinner at your resort.Hotel: Chifley Alice Springs Resort Day 4 West MacDonnell Ranges (B,L,D) The West MacDonnell Ranges is the ideal place to experience the geology, land forms and variety of native flora and fauna. Take a walk to Simpsons Gap and dramatic Angkerle (Standley Chasm). There'll be time to cool off with a swim at Ellery Creek Big Hole and to explore the Ochre Pits, having been used for thousands of years. This afternoon you'll also visit the Royal Flying Doctor Service to see how this facility provides medical assistance to those living in outback Australia. Tonight you'll enjoy an incredible dinner experience in a bush setting. A 3-course meal dinner featuring traditional bush foods will be cooked in a "˜bush oven'.Hotel: Chifley Alice Springs Resort Day 5 Farewell from Alice Springs (B) Before your trip comes to an end, visit School of The Air to learn how children living in the far reaches of the outback receive an education over the air waves and visit the Overland Telegraph Station, once a school for Aboriginal children. Your journey comes to an end in the late morning.
