What To Expect

Day 1 begins with the drive from Chiang Mai north to Chiang Dao Valley, your starting point. You'll briefed on the tour and outfitted with your mountain bike. Total biking distance is a max of 28 miles (45 km). Day 2 is about the same distance, with a max of 31 miles (50 km).One night of accommodation is included at Padeng Lodge. One lunch, two dinners and one breakfast are also provided. See the Itinerary for more details on each day's route.ItineraryDAY 1: CHIANG MAI TO CHIANG DAO (cycling distance 30 to 45 km/ 18 to 28 miles)Meals: lunch and dinnerMeeting with the tour guide at your Chiang Mai hotel and drive north to the Chiang Dao valley, our starting point. After a short briefing and bike fitting, we start pedaling on easy dirt road trails linking hill tribe villages. Visit Lahu and Akha villages, as well as the Palaung people from Myanmar, with only a few settlements in northern Thailand. Thai set lunch at local restaurant. The afternoon will be spent riding along rural back roads and pristine landscape, and the sight of the imposing Doi Luang Chiang Dao, the country's third tallest mountain, in the background. Arrive at the Chiang Dao caves, a Buddhist sanctuary, for some exploration. Ride your bike, or transfer by vehicle to the Padeng Lodge for overnight. Enjoy a succulent dinner served at the lodge. DAY 2: CHIANG DAO CYCLING DAY (cycling distance 30 to 50 km cycling or 19 to 31 miles)Meals: breakfast and lunchBreakfast, followed by an exciting morning ride through more scenic landscape! Mostly jungle and forest trails, leading to new villages and a riverside Temple. The escort vehicle is following the riders, except on single trails. After lunch, the cycling distance will be approximately 25 km (16 miles). Ride a mix of dirt trails and paved roads, depending of the participant's abilities. Cycle back to the Lodge for clean up, shower and relax before an overland transfer to Chiang Mai (1.15 hour). Drop off at your hotel in the city.
